BLARNEY was born some time in 2002 as a result of that relatively common (if little understood) phenomenon known as 'synchronicity'. In other words, three shifty-looking individuals purporting to be musicians met at a session in an Irish pub. The pub in question (The Herschel Arms in Slough, Berkshire, UK) is renowned the length and breadth of long and broad things for its excellent Monday Night Session wherein many an unsuspecting musician has found himself 'synchronised' by landlord Tom King. The rest is history in the making. So what if it all ends in tears? So what? Frank Doherty (singer/songwriter/guitarist/motivator) hails from Derry City, Northern Ireland and has had a long (and some would say chequered) musical career stretching back well into the last millennium. Sam Proctor is a gifted fiddler whose only fault appears to be that he has no connection whatsoever with Ireland other than his ability to play the music as well as anyone! Erik Faithfull plays uilleann pipes with warmth, sensitivity and a great deal of skill. He also plays the flute and various whistles but usually only after he has stopped playing the pipes. Apart from being a fabulous musician he is also a cracking bloke!!! |
